What does my scholarship cover?
Boston Public High School Scholarship
Full tuition, a standard double room, standard fees, and board.
Northeastern Boston Valedictorian Scholarship
Full tuition, a standard double room, standard fees, and board.

Boston Housing Authority Scholarship
Full tuition.

Northeastern Neighborhood Scholarship
Full tuition.

ACADEMIC
Your scholarship will cover the equivalent of 8 undergraduate academic semesters (not Co-Op as it is not an academic semester), with the exception of students in the pharmacy program. Who will receive the scholarship for the approved length of the program. If you complete your degree in less than 8 undergraduate semesters, you will only receive the per term amount of your scholarship for the semester you actually attended class.

HOUSING
​
If your scholarship covers housing, it will cover accommodations up to an enhanced double which, as of 10/15/2024, is $7,460. If you chose a housing accommodation that is more than $7,460, then you will be responsible for paying the difference.
You will not receive a refund for choosing housing that is less expensive than an enhanced double.​ OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING WILL NEVER BE COVERED BY YOUR SCHOLARSHIP.​ To see a list of qualifying housing accommodation, please visit the room rates here.

MEAL PLAN
​
If your scholarship covers a meal plan, it will cover an unlimited meal plan. YOU WILL NEED TO SIGN-UP FOR A MEAL PLAN EVERY YEAR. IT DOES NOT RENEW AUTOMATICALLY. You will not receive a refund for choosing a meal plan that is less expensive than unlimited.

Books/class materials or NU Health Plan (NUSHP) are not covered.

What do I need to maintain my scholarship?
You need to maintain the following cumulative GPA listed below according to your scholarship type. In addition to this, attendance to community and town hall meetings are also mandatory unless it coincides with your class time or if you are on co-op/studying abroad.

Failure to attend meetings without an excused absence will result in a hold being placed on your account which will result in you being unable to register for classes.

Who do I contact about my financial aid?

Do not email SFS. Please fill out an inquiry form instead. Please be advised that it will take 3-5 business days to receive an answer via email/your case account. If it takes longer than 2 weeks for an answer, please email Jen Schoen.

When filling out the Inquiry Form, please ensure that you click "Financial Aid" under Category, and "Named Scholarships" under SubCategory so they know to connect your case to Talia or Emily.

What happens if I drop a class?
Dropping 1 class will result in automatic academic probation. You will be on academic probation for 1 semester until you meet the minimum cumulative GPA for your scholarship. For more questions, please contact Leroy Jackson directly.

What happens if I fail a class?

Does my scholarship cover my study abroad expenses?
Your Boston Scholarship will cover the equivalent of your Boston campus tuition expenses while studying abroad. or dialogue, the scholarship is pro-rated to covers the reduced tuition amount. There is a dialogue fee associated with the program and you will be eligible for a stipend of meals if it's not included in the dialogue fee.

Do I have to notify someone that I'm studying abroad?
The moment you are officially committed to a study abroad program or dialogue, please fill out an SFS Inquiry Form notifying them that you're studying abroad. This ensures that you receive your reimbursements as early as possible prior to leaving the country.

After contacting SFS, please email Keyla, Jen and Jackson and let them that you are studying abroad by including the term you're studying abroad, the program name and country location.
Please ensure that you're selecting "Financial Aid" and "Named Scholarship" when filling out the form. You can access the form here.

Do I still have my scholarship during co-op?
No.
Your scholarship does not cover your co-op as it only covers academic semesters. Tuition is not charged during co-op unless you're taking a class. Room and board and a meal plan are not covered but student can receive scholarship funding for tuition if taking a class. You can also work with your Co-Op Advisor about funding programs. Some students can apply for additional funding if they take unpaid or underpaid co-ops depending on their program. Please see the co-op FAQ page for more information.
