Scholarship Coverage

• Full tuition and fees for 8 undergraduate full-time academic semesters. Doctor of Pharmacy program students  receive scholarship coverage for the approved length of the program.

• Housing accommodations up to an enhanced double which values at $7,900 (2026-2027).

• Unlimited meal-plan

• Northeastern University Insurance Plan (NUSHP)

•  Students in a Northeastern-billed study abroad program that fits into their curriculum within the eight (8) undergraduate semesters will receive their scholarship benefits.​

Academics​

​

Classes taken during co-op with permission from your co-op advisor will be covered by your scholarship. However, room/board, meal plan, fees, etc. is not covered by your scholarship. You will work with your co-op advisor to secure funding for housing and meal plan if you decide to live off of campus. You will work with SFS directly to secure funding as you will be eligible for other types of financial aid. 

 

Your scholarship cannot be applied to graduate studies, PlusOne programs or Master’s degree programs. The only exception will be for the clinical/graduate portion of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.

To keep your scholarship you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.7.

​

You must take a full semester of 16 credits to be considered a full-time student and for your scholarship to be active. If you want to take additional credits for a semester, you must seek permission to overload credits with your academic advisor.

​

Please allow 2 weeks after the add/drop deadline for your scholarship to disburse to your account. If you still have a balance because your scholarship was not applied for the semester, fill out an SFS inquiry form.

Academic Probation

 

All Boston Scholarship students who take a W for a course will be automatically placed on academic probation. Being placed on academic probation does not mean the automatic removal of your scholarship. The student will be given one semester to bring their cumulative GPA up to meet scholarship requirements.

Students who do not meet the cumulative GPA requirements after an academic semester, they will be placed on academic probation. If a student fails to bring their grade up to the required GPA , they will have to file a Satisfactory Academic Progress Report to appeal to keep your scholarship.  For assistance, please email Jen and consult the SFS website.

Summer Semesters

​

Your scholarship will cover your summer courses and housing during the summer so long as you take 2 courses (8 credits) of classes during a summer semester. If you need to take more than 8 credits you will need to receive permission from your academic advisor.

 

Taking classes during Summer A will count as 1/2 a semester. Taking classes during Summer B will count as 1/2 a semester. Together, they would total 1 full semester towards your 8 academic semester coverage.

Co-Op

​

Your scholarship will cover your tuition and health insurance while you are on Co-Op. It will not cover your room/board, meal plan or students fees. Majority of students are Pell eligible and utilize financial aid while on co-op.

Financial Aid

 

You are eligible for additional financial aid. You will need to complete your CSS Profile your first incoming year. This only needs to be completed once. This will allow us to evaluate you for additional institutional need-based aid. You will need to complete your FAFSA every year for Federal and State funds.

Outside Scholarships

You are more than welcome to apply for additional outside scholarships. You must notify the Financial Aid office if you have been awarded scholarships. Note that your existing financial aid package may potentially be reduced based on your existing budget. Please reach out to SFS in person or via the SFS Inquiry form for additional questions.

Housing Financial Aid Adjustments

Your aid can be adjusted if you decide to live at home or on-campus. Please notify SFS of these living changes so they can discuss potential changes to your aid.

Housing​

​

Your scholarship covers housing up to $7,900 (2026-2027). If you choose a housing accommodation that is more than $7,900, then you will be responsible for paying the difference. OSOP is not responsible for covering the difference. You will not receive a refund for choosing housing that is less expensive than an enhanced double.​ If you choose a "cheaper" meal-plan, that difference cannot be applied towards your housing.

 

Off-Campus housing is not covered by your scholarship as it is not a property owned by Northeastern University.  To see a list of qualifying housing accommodation, please visit the room rates here.

Meal Plan ​

​

Your scholarship covers an unlimited meal plan. Yes, you can choose a lower meal plan, however, you will not receive a refund for choosing a meal plan that is less expensive. You must sign up for a meal-plan every academic year, OSOP is not responsible for automatically registering you for a meal plan. You are able to change your meal plan before the dedicated deadlines. NU Student Health Plan 

 

Your scholarship covers NUSHP. Please note that NUSHP does not include a dental or vision plan.  

 

There is a Dental Savings Program with Basix Dental that students enrolled in NUSHP are automatically enrolled in. Please go to the Basix website to find a provider. 

 

Please note we receive discounted rates from Fenway Health for dental and vision. Students under 19 have pediatric dental coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield. The reason that NUSHP includes pediatric dental coverage is because the plan is compliant with the Affordable Care Act. The ACA included pediatric dental care as one of the ten essential health benefits that all plans compliant with the ACA must include.

Study Abroad & Dialogue

​

Your scholarship covers your study abroad program tuition and provides a housing and meal plan stipend equal to the cost of your attendance at NU. It also covers any fees, university health insurance.

 

There will be other costs associated with going abroad, like a visa or plane ticket which are not covered by your scholarship. GEO offers additional scholarships to help with those costs as well. Visit the GEO website for more information

For dialogue, the scholarship is pro-rated to cover the reduced tuition amount. There is a dialogue fee associated with the program and you are eligible for a stipend of meal if it's not included in the dialogue fee.​

Please notify Student Financial Services via the "Study Abroad & Dialogue Form" as soon as you have officially been accepted into your program. Do not fill out the form if you have not been officially accepted yet. Failure to fill out this form in a timely manner will result in a delay in receiving your stipend/reimbursement/paid bill.

Study Abroad Stipends & Reimbursements

​

Receiving a study abroad stipend/reimbursement  does not mean that all expenses incurred while abroad will be covered by the scholarship. Please be aware that housing and meal stipend/rebimbursements amounts vary by study abroad program and location. The amounts are determined based on the specific program, location, duration, and estimated cost of necessary living expenses. As a result, students participating in different programs may receive different stipend/reimbursement amounts.

These amounts are established as part of the program's financial planning and cannot be adjusted on an individual basis by OSOP, Student Financial Services, or the Study Abroad Office. Students should review their anticipated costs carefully and plan their personal budgets accordingly before participating in a study abroad program.

​

Meal stipends are intended to help cover reasonable food expenses during the program period and are not intended to cover entertainment, personal purchases, excursions, or other discretionary expenses. Students are encouraged to consider the stipend/reimbursement provided alongside their own available resources and to develop a realistic budget before departure. Students are responsible for managing their funds throughout the duration of their program and should plan accordingly for expenses that fall outside of the approved scholarship coverage.

While we understand that costs can vary and that studying abroad can present unexpected financial challenges, additional funding is not guaranteed and cannot be provided simply because a student's personal expenses exceed the amount of their approved stipend.

​

Missed Flights & Travel Emergencies

​

Students are responsible for managing their travel arrangements, including arriving at the airport on time, allowing sufficient time for check-in and security, and confirming their flight details prior to departure.

​

OSOP may provide financial assistance in the event of an unforeseen emergency or circumstance outside of the student’s reasonable control, such as a significant airline disruption, severe weather, or another situation that prevents the student from completing their travel as planned. Any assistance provided in these circumstances is determined on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.

​

OSOP is not responsible for the cost of missed flights resulting from circumstances within the student’s control, including arriving late to the airport, failing to allow adequate time for airport procedures, missing a connection due to personal time management, or otherwise failing to follow their confirmed travel itinerary. In these situations, students are responsible for any costs associated with rebooking or making alternative travel arrangements.

Students are encouraged to contact OSOP or GEO as soon as possible if an unexpected travel emergency occurs. Prompt communication is important so that available options can be assessed and appropriate support can be considered.
